Big Fish OR My Life as a Hemingway Character

The day after our river adventure, Maarje and I were joined by two more Dutch women for another (better researched) excursion from Las Penitas. This time we went deep sea fishing and we were in a real motor boat!  This post will be short because I'm really only writing it to gloat.

We fished for two hours with absolutely no luck.  Our guide kept listing all of the many, many kinds of fish that we could catch there and he kept saying that every other time of day except the time that we were out on the water was best for fishing.  We had just about given up when I felt a tug on my line.  I reeled it in (it was really hard work!) and up came a big white fish.  We had to ask around to get the English name of the fish and were told it was a "Jack" fish.  Never heard of it.  But he tasted good.

Our guide's friend met us with a makeshift grill at the beach and set up a little picnic for us.  We ate a great meal of Jack fish, wrapped in tortillas, with salsa, beans and rice (no meal is complete without it), and a cream sauce.  While we ate, we watched the sunset again.  It was a good day.

Sadly, I have no pictures.  After the wobbly tree excursion, I didn't want to take any more risks with my camera and left it at the hostel in Leon.
